DIY One Handed Bagpipes
Step by Step Instructions
Materials
1/8" Steel Rod
Splint
Delrin
Plastic Hairties (small)
Crazy Glue
4/40 Screws
Steps:
1: Cut and Bend the 1/8" Rod
Dimensions*
For Lowest Hole: 17.8"
For Second Lowest Hole: 14"
For Second Highest Hole: 11.2"
For Highest Hole: 8"
For Pinky Rod: 12"
Bend all at a 90 degree angle at 0.5"
*These dimensions fit well for our chanter but may change based on the practice chanter used.
3: Drill Hole for Rod into the Delrin Pad
Drill Bit: 1/8"
3: Taper the Silicone Pads
Material: Silicone
These will block the holes and be attached to the delrin flaps. It is a guess and check process, where you can file and then check it on the chanter. Be sure to test to make sure it properly blocks out the sound
4: Drill holes for a Set Screw into the Delrin Flaps and Tap
Screw Size: 4/40
These will allow for easy adjustments to the placement of the pads in the rod and keep it stable.
5: Crazy Glue The Silicone Pads to the Flaps
Make sure to put the Pads relatively in the middle. Test that the pads line up well to the flaps.
7: Drill holes for a Set Screw into the Bracket and Tap
Set Screw: 4 40
This allows the bracket to be tightened onto the chanter.
8: Place Rods into Bracket
Make Sure to Use the Rubber Hair Ties as a Collar
9: Place Bracket Onto Chanter
The brackets should be in between the third hole and the 6th hole. Adjust the rods for comfort.
